Craobh Naomh Choca was established in 1991. At the 1st AGM the meeting elected Mary Mallon as Chairperson. Mary was to continue for 20 years as Chairperson of Craobh Naomh Choca. In 2013 Craobh Naomh Choca honoured 3 people who had done huge work over the years, Mary Mallon, Breda Rogers and Marie O’Keefe. During these years many of the current officers were in minor officer roles, teaching classes and playing sessions.
Prior to Craobh Naomh Choca being established, music classes were always available in Kilcock, taught by Rena Traynor (RIP), a Clare woman who lived in the outskirts of Kilcock. Rena taught music all over Kildare and Meath and is responsible for the music been played by the Adult generation of the area.
Over the years many of the people involved with Craobh Naomh Choca won many County Fleadhanna, Leinster and All-Ireland medals. The current Chairperson Millie Fitzpatrick (Gill) herself won her first All-Ireland medal back in 1985/86 in Listowel on Piano Accordion. Millie along with Daragh O’Rourke (current Vice-Chairperson) and Niall Cronolly represented at Trio competitions at All-Ireland. Today it is great to see the generation from the 1980’s and subsequent years taking the leadership rolls within the branch.
Craobh Naomh Choca is deeply involved in the local Community, providing music at every opportunity. Culture night events in the local library, Seachtain na Gaeilge performances in the local bunscoil lán Gaeilge, not forgetting playing for events in the Kilcock GAA Club throughout the year.
A recent highlight for our branch has been to host Fleadh Cheoil Chill Dara in 2015 and again in 2016. Hosting entertainment and activities both years, including the Fleadh Launch nights, Singers & Storytellers Nights, Set Dancing Céilís, Aifreann Tradisuinta, Junior Trad Sessions, Adult Trad Sessions and the competitions days in Scoil Dara.
